Mission Statement
The Junior League of Charlotte, Inc. (JLC) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, to developing the potential of women and to improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
Reaching Out Statement
The Junior League of Charlotte and The Association of Junior Leagues International reach out to women of all races, religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.
Vision Statement
The Junior League of Charlotte will be a leading force in improving the lives of children and families in this community.
Community Commitment
The JLC annually reviews project proposals submitted by community agencies and/or League focus area committees. Final decisions are voted upon by the membership and are based on community needs, membership interest, and available League resources.
2007-2008 Projects and Placements
For the next five years the JLC will be focusing on its Healthy Child Initiative (HCI). The focus of HCI is to promote and support the physical, dental and mental health needs of children age 0-17 years and their families. For the 2007-2008 year, the JLC will contribute a total of $56,500 and 303 volunteers to the following community programs for an estimated annual 10,908 hours, which computes to a monetary value of $204,743.16:

$4,000 will be available for Enabling Funds to be distributed between June 1, 2007 - May 31, 2008. Enabling Funds are used to provide community needs where volunteers may not be necessary or appropriate and/or to provide a means of responding to short-term or immediate needs or to facilitate start-up programs.
Community Endowment
The Junior League of Charlotte has established an Endowment Fund to secure the long-term financial future of the JLC.
The Membership
- A total of 2202 Charlotte area women are members of the JLC.
- 92 Provisionals: members-to-be who engage in an extensive one-year training course along with hands-on volunteer placement experience.
- 819 Actives: members who fulfill community volunteer commitments as well as manage the organization. Over 70% of the Actives are employed, either part or full-time.
- 1291 Sustainers: members who serve in advisory roles and provide support for League activities, but are not involved with the League on a daily basis.
- The JLC reaches out to all women, regardless of race, religion, or national origin who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.
Points of Interest
- Founded in 1926, the JLC has provided millions of volunteer hours and more than $4.75 million to the community.
- The Junior League of Charlotte, Inc. is a member of the Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. (AJLI). The AJLI is comprised of 296 Leagues throughout the U.S., Great Britain, Mexico, and Canada, with a collective membership of over 200,000 women.
