What is APA?

The role of the Advocacy and Public Awareness Committee (APA) is to facilitate the advocacy of the JLC Healthy Child Initiative focus area concerns and study area legislative and community issues. In addition, APA takes the research around these issues and formulates a position or set of actions on behalf of the JLC. This can include identification and implementation of public awareness campaigns.

Junior League of Charlotte’s Healthy Child Initiative Position Statement.

In 2004, APA was focused on and supported the JLC efforts around developing and implementing the Healthy Child Initiative to the community. Committee members developed contacts with legislators, community partners, other NC Leagues, and advocacy groups in the Charlotte Community.

In 2005-2006, APA created a school nurse position statement addressing the nurse shortage in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and advocated for the increased funding to alleviate the shortage.

In 2006-2007, APA continued to advocate for funding for more school nurses and created an additional position statement- The Campaign for Children’s Healthcare.
