Community Child Team

Alexander Youth Network:  Volunteers serve as tutors or recreation volunteers for children at Alexander Youth Network to support the organization’s mission of providing treatment to children ages 5-18 with or at risk of emotional or behavioral problems.  www.alexanderyouthnetwork.org

Allegro Champion for Children:  Allegro Foundation…a Champion for Children with Disabilities, is a nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization that combines movement instruction with educational and medical expertise, creating a new vehicle to teach children with disabilities and enhance their quality of life.  Allegro serves children with mental retardation, Down syndrome, orthopedic challenges (wheelchairs and walkers), cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, individuals with learning disabilities, hearing and visual impairments, children at-risk, and children with cancer.  The JLC will participate as teaching assistants in public school programs and after school community outreach programs to promote inclusion and awareness and to show what children with disabilities CAN do through public performances and participation in local community events.

Chameleon’s Journey:  Part of Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region’s Kids Path Pediatric Care program.  League volunteers help with a free weekend camp for grieving children (7-16) who have experienced the death of a family member or significant other in their lives.  The camp’s goal is for children to learn to share their feelings about the loss experience and receive the support of caring, concerned volunteers while meeting others who know what it is like to walk this journey.  http://www.hpccr.org/

Mental Health Awareness:  Strive to educate and raise awareness of mental health issues for Junior League of Charlotte members and the Charlotte community at large.
