President’s Message

More than 94 years ago, a group of thirty Charlotte women identified a need in the community, came together to volunteer their time and talents to find a solution, and led efforts to found the city’s first Baby Home to provide a safe place for children without parents.  This began the Junior League of Charlotte, Inc. (JLC) and its legacy of leadership and service.

On behalf of our more than 1,500 members, thank you for exploring our website and for giving us the opportunity to share more about our organization. Throughout the site, you’ll find information on our mission, our members, and our commitment to both our JLC community of members and the Charlotte community at large.

You’ll see that since 1926, our community of empowered women have worked together as a team to spark positive and lasting community change. Our impact can be seen all over the city. For the past nine decades, JLC women have been the catalyst for the creation of countless nonprofit organizations aimed at meeting the needs of our growing city.

The JLC provides members with mission-driven opportunities to both give and receive. We help unlock the leadership potential within our members and serve others through our nonprofit partnerships across Charlotte.  We give to our community through our service – more than 28,560 hours by trained volunteers annually at a value of $690,866.40 in the last year alone.  Our members also receive training to elevate their professional careers and civic leadership. Whether engaging in hands-on volunteer work with our partners or engaging in leadership by serving in one of more than 200 League positions, our members are supported by our signature training and education programs.
